First, change your template to a "minima" template, then:

Log into your blog and click on "customize", you'll then see a tab on the far-right that says "edit HTML." Click on the tab. Scroll down in the code until you see this:

body {background:$bgcolor;margin:0; color:$textcolor; font:x-small Georgia Serif; font-size/* */:/**/small; font-size: /**/small; text-align: center;

Replace that part of the code with this:

body {background:$bgcolor;background-image:url(direct link);background-position: center; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-attachment: fixed;margin:0; color:$textcolor; font:x-small Georgia Serif; font-size/* */:/**/small; font-size: /**/small; text-align: center;

Now, find your favorite background, and copy and paste the link underneath it between the parenthesis where it says "direct link." (You will be replacing the words "direct link.")

The blog background does not always span the entire width of your screen, so you will need to choose a background color to fill in the extra space.
